Sunday 28th  July was the date of our summer barbecue. The event was hosted by myself, Mike Beckley, and my lovely wife, Anne Brown. We came up with the concept after a general purposes meeting, as a fundraiser in support of the Bucks Provincial 2021 Festival.

After the recent “hails of trout” we had been receiving courtesy of the weather gods, they finally took pity and blessed us with some lovely sunshine for a large part of the afternoon.

It was a great way to socialise with lodge members and their arguably “better halves”. Fortunately we managed to judge the catering quantities pretty accurately, so very little was left over. We kept it simple with burgers, hot-dogs, chicken skewers and salads. But I would say the jewel in the crown was Annes slow cooked pulled pork, which spent 12 hours in the pot on Saturday in preparation. Simply sublime.

I received many emails during the following week from our guests saying how much they had enjoyed the afternoon. As a bonus, there were no reported cases of food poisoning.

Financially, the event was very successful. As a group we raised £190.00 towards the festival fund. It is something we now plan to do on an annual basis.
